Happy New Year! We hope you had a relaxing holiday and are looking forward to an exciting year ahead!

Year 2 and the PIC will be holding a Titanic Day in our classes—experience life in 1st and 3rd class! More details to follow.

 

 

 

 

Topic

Our topic this half term is Welcome Aboard the Titanic. We are going to be learning all about the journey of the Titanic and the experiences of those on board.  

 

English

In English we will be writing diary entries from the point of view of a passenger on board the Titanic as well as an information report about our trip to the Seacity Museum in Southampton.

 

Maths

We will begin this term by recapping number and place value, looking at odd and even numbers and comparing an ordering numbers. We will then continue to consolidate our multiplication and division skills.

 

Spellings

Spelling words will come home on a Friday afternoon. Please return the folder to school the following Friday so we can give the children new flash cards.  

 

Our PE sessions will be moving to a Thursday morning. Please remember to send in your child's PE kit for this day each week.

Swimming lessons will be Wednesday mornings from the 15th January to 4th March for children in years 3 and 4.

Our first topic this half term will be the rainforest. We will be learning all about the animals that live in the rainforest and what makes their habitat special. We will be applying this learning in English, writing information factfiles, short stories and poems.

In Spanish, we will be learning the Spanish words for numbers 1-20. We will be learning to say how old we are in Spanish and will begin to ask others how old they are! We are going to throw a Spanish birthday party!

 

In Science, we will be learning about forces and magnets. We will be comparing how things move on different surfaces and how magnets work.

 

In PSHE this half term we will be learning about how to keep ourselves safe and road safety. We will also be learning about anti-bullying day and remembrance day.

 

Our PE sessions will continue to be on a WEDNESDAY. Please remember to send in your child's PE kit for this day each week so they have the appropriate clothes to wear. Please could we also ask that all clothes are clearly named so items are less likely to get lost! Thank you.

Welcome back to school! We hope you had a fun and restful summer holiday. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to come and speak to one of the PIC team who will be very happy to help.

 

Our PE sessions will begin again next week and will continue to be on a WEDNESDAY. Please remember to send in your child's PE kit for this day each week so they have the appropriate clothes to wear. Please could we also ask that all clothes are clearly named so items are less likely to get lost!

 

On Friday we will begin sending reading books home with the children. Please continue to share your child's reading book with them as often as you can, it makes such a difference to their learning and progress. Our library sessions will continue to be on a Thursday. The children will bring home a book to enjoy with you. It may be a book at their reading level or one that you can read to them. Please return library books on a Thursday so the children can swap it for a new one.  

 

We will be sending home Wow Cards this week. Please write down and send in any special 'wow' moments. We love to celebrate them with the children and share in the progress and success they are making outside of school.
