September 2019

Welcome back to school! We hope you had a fun and restful summer holiday. If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to come and speak to one of the PIC team who will be very happy to help.

Our PE sessions will begin again next week and will continue to be on a WEDNESDAY. Please remember to send in your child's PE kit for this day each week so they have the appropriate clothes to wear. Please could we also ask that all clothes are clearly named so items are less likely to get lost!

On Friday we will begin sending reading books home with the children. Please continue to share your child's reading book with them as often as you can, it makes such a difference to their learning and progress. Our library sessions will continue to be on a Thursday. The children will bring home a book to enjoy with you. It may be a book at their reading level or one that you can read to them. Please return library books on a Thursday so the children can swap it for a new one.

We will be sending home Wow Cards this week. Please write down and send in any special 'wow' moments. We love to celebrate them with the children and share in the progress and success they are making outside of school.

Summer 1

Welcome back to school! We hope you had an enjoyable Easter holiday.

In English we will be reading George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. We will use this as the inspiration for our writing this half term. This will also link to our work in DT. We are going to be creating our own “marvellous medicines”. We will be creating labels and adverts to persuade other people to buy our medicine.

Our topic this half term is “Let’s Get Inventing!” We will be designing and creating our own inventions as well as looking at different famous inventions. We will also look at the inventions of Wallace and Gromit to give us some inspiration for our own work.

Our PE sessions will continue to be on a WEDNESDAY. Please remember to send in your child's PE kit for this day each week so they have the appropriate clothes to wear. Please could we also ask that all clothes are clearly named so items are less likely to get lost!

Reading books will go home on a Friday. Please fill in your child's reading diary after you have read with them.

Our library slot is a Thursday morning. Please ensure that your child's library book is returned to school so that they are able to swap it for a new one.

Many thanks,

Mrs Clarke, Mrs Warren and Mrs Singh-Landa

Spring 2

We hope you had a fun and relaxing half term and are ready for an exciting new term.

In the last week of term we will perform our spring concert (date and time to be confirmed soon). The children will share the songs they have been learning in music this term as well as the poem they are learning for World Book Day.

Our topic this half term is “Green Fingers”. We will be learning about the life cycle of a flower and the conditions that plants need in order to grow. We will support this learning with a number of experiments in school and writing a scientific report.

We will be sending home a planted sunflower seed for the children to care for at home. To support this project we will ask them to record changes they notice in the plant as it grows. We will send out more information soon.

Spring 1

We hope you had a fun and relaxing Christmas and are ready for an exciting New Year. Every morning we count the days of school to practise counting in 10s and 1s and on Thursday 14th February we will be celebrating the 100th day of this school year. We will send out more information with details about the day nearer the time.

Our topic this half term is Polar Regions. We will be particularly focussing on penguins, learning about their bodies, diet and habitat. On Friday 8th February we will be having a penguin day. Children are invited to come into school dressed as a penguin (not compulsory) and we will have an entire day of activities about penguins. We will send out more information nearer the time.
